Russian stocks close mixed amid remaining global uncertainty

MOSCOW, Aug 27 (PRIME) -- Russian stocks closed mixed on Tuesday after falling the entire trading day amid remaining uncertainty on global floors connected with a trade conflict between China and the U.S., analysts said.

The MOEX Russia Index added 0.04% to 2,659.35 and the RTS Index lost 0.76% to 1,258.60.

“The Russian stock market showed inexpressive dynamics on Tuesday, attempts to win back the morning losses were unsuccessful, and by the end of the trading session the correctional movement only intensified,” Promsvyazbank chief analyst Roman Antonov said.

BCS Broker expert Dmitry Babin said the situation on global markets remained unstable due to a high uncertainty connected with a foreign trade conflict between the U.S. and China.

Otkritie Broker analyst Andrei Kochetkov said, “Markets clearly do not trust the words of (U.S. President) Donald Trump, who announced that China seeks to resume negotiations. Information on this has not yet been officially confirmed in Beijing, and past experience suggests that the Chinese side will require the removal of some of the current restrictions as grounds for negotiations. The domestic market cannot stand aloof from global trends and traded mainly in the red.”

Gold producer Polymetal was among growth leaders, adding 5.97% after saying that its board of directors recommended paying U.S. $0.2 per share in dividends for January–June.

Diamond mining giant ALROSA rose 1% after its supervisory board recommended paying 3.84 rubles per share in dividends for January–June.

Metals and mining company Mechel was among outsiders, with its common and preferred shares losing 4.41% and 2.9%, respectively.
